After the departure of coach Luca Banchi, Virtus Bologna has appointed coach Dusko Ivanovic as the new head coach. Here are the details of the contract.

Coach Luca Banchi‘s tenure with Segafredo Virtus Bologna has officially ended. The club accepted the resignation of the Tuscan coach and immediately announced the arrival of Dusko Ivanovic. The Montenegrin coach has signed a contract until June 30, 2025, with an option for the 2025/26 season.

The latest from Virtus Bologna: Following coach Luca Banchi’s resignation, Virtus Bologna quickly began searching for a replacement. The first name to emerge was Sasha Djordjevic, the Serbian coach who won the Basketball Champions League in May 2019 and the Italian championship in June 2021.

Virtus Bologna did reach out to Djordjevic, but in the end, the club decided not to pursue him. Why? Currently, Virtus Bologna is unable to make moves in the transfer market, and the new coach will need to accept the conditions set by the club, including a defined financial offer. Moreover, the coach must be willing to work with the current roster, without any changes (at least until any potential player departures occur).

For this reason, the club has chosen to move forward with Dusko Ivanovic, who has agreed to accept these terms.
